A Zantac Lawsuit is a wrongful death claim by relatives of victims who ingested the pain killing antacid medication and subsequently were diagnosed with lung cancer. Zantac (as well as its generic variant ranitidine) was found to contain the antiseptic agent phenylethylamine. Since then up to now, over a dozen pharmaceutical corporations have recalled the medicine. The Food and Drug Administration has even threatened to block the sale of the medicine. All this because the evidence suggests that Zantac was actually missed, despite the manufacturer's claims that the medicine did not cause cancer.
In Zantac Lawsuit No. 6, plaintiff's relatives claim that the antacid caused them to develop cancerous tumors. The plaintiffs seek monetary damages on the basis that they developed cancer due to the influence of the antacid. Zantac manufactures several different types of prescription drugs and is the market leader in the treatment of acid reflux, heartburn, acid indigestion and acid reflux disease, as well as other digestive disorders. The manufacturer is under contract to sell Zantac only for legitimate purposes.
Several lawsuits regarding Zantac Lawsuit No. 5 were filed against Sanofi Aventis, the primary maker of Zantac. According to the lawsuits, the company knowingly sold Zantac for unapproved purposes, which led to its non-therapeutic effects. Several plaintiffs say that Sanofi Aventis did not warn the consumers about the potential risks associated with Zantac, thereby exposing them to needless health hazards.
Several of the Zantac Lawsuit plaintiffs are identified as regular consumers who regularly used Zantac for weight loss and to control their acid reflux. Plaintiffs contend that Sanofi Aventis did not warn them that Zantac was a first class-action drug that was regularly used to treat patients diagnosed with stomach cancer. Some plaintiffs were even unaware that Zantac was a first class-action drug until they were diagnosed with esophageal cancer. Zantac was also used to treat smokers who were diagnosed as having throat cancer.
The Sanofi Aventis failed to warn Zantac users that Zantac is a class action lawsuit drug and therefore was exposing Zantac users to the risk of developing secondary health problems. In addition, many plaintiffs' lawyers argue that Sanofi Aventis did not warn Zantac users about Zantac's potential for addiction and dependency. A class action lawsuit is usually an unpleasant fact for any defendant to face. It could mean financial trouble for the defendant and a substantial judgment for the plaintiffs if the defendants are found liable for injuries and health-related damages.
The legal case will be filed by Zantac Lawsuit plaintiff's lawyers in the U.S. Many of the claims filed in these lawsuits have been successful in securing compensation from drug manufacturers. However, there are many more lawsuits currently pending in various courts across the country.
